THE WEDDING!

I know several of you all have been anxious to hear about our first wedding, MaryBeth and Chase’s … it is a long story, but a good one.
Several months ago, our newly-hired barista, Chase, told Jess that he and his new fiancé were thinking about using us to do their wedding cupcakes. Several weeks later, we set a menu with MaryBeth:
Classic Vanilla Cupcakes
Red Velvet Cupcakes
White Chocolate Cupcakes
Broadway Brew Cupcakes --->(Chase’s fave)
Chile-Cheddar Tapas
Lemon, Blueberry, and Cinnamon Mini Scones
3 varieties of Grapes

At the time December 10 seemed light years away… but then it happened – wedding week. I asked Jess, “WHOSE idea was it to agree to this?” (Of course it was mine, as Jess politely reminded me…)
Needless to say, I went crazy with the lists; I had made countless plans, countless charts; I had gone to SAMS to get groceries, I had ordered extra flour, and elegant gold cupcake wrappers… we were ready. But, I had a million worries: what if I forgot something, or what if she hated everything, or worst of all, what if the chart was wrong?! Luckily I have Jess to keep me sane and I have patient co-workers and employers who are used to my insanity.
But finally the day came and it came EARLY! At 5am Jess and I got to the shop and once the daily baking was done we started baking cupcakes. We had both been up the night before prepping everything possible because, according to the chart, we had to be out of the store by 1:00pm NO questions asked! I was feeling great; it was “go-time” and I love working under pressure. We had recruited help for this undertaking… David stayed up most of the night grading papers and baking mini scones. Alissa brought us breakfast burritos and washed countless dishes (and grapes). Bradley loaded everything; so when 1:00pm came we were loaded to the ceiling in the car, ready to go with to-go lunches (courtesy of Bethanie). So far so good.
Once we arrived at the Legacy building in downtown Lubbock, we unloaded the car with the help of groomsmen, Jose and Lance, and began setting up. A few arguments later (one of which scared Jose); we had a beautiful room, ready for cupcakes.
At 4:00pm we realized that we needed flowers for the mini-cake that we made for them to cut (you have to have a cake). So, Jess and I left Alissa to clean (HER idea) and we headed to Market Street.

After bickering like an old married couple about the flowers to use, we agreed on a few flowers and off we went, afterwards having decided that if our friendship can survive that, it can survive anything!
Once back at the building, we began icing cupcakes and glazing scones – Alissa was washing 15 pounds of grapes (glad it was her).

And, one hour later, at 6:30pm, we were done, with a full half-hour to spare. We ran to the bathroom, got changed, and attended the beautiful, perfect service.
All in all, it was a wrap. We restocked, and served for hours, but we had a blast and even got to dance a little (as much as zombies can dance).

At 11:00pm the party was over, and it was time to clean up. Our feet hurt, we were hungry, and we were exhausted. But it was all worth it:  people loved the cupcakes, and as cheesy as it sounds, the excitement on Chase and MaryBeth’s faces when they saw the room was worth all of the work. They loved it.  Mission complete.
And did you hear the good news?
Bradley is now engaged … here we go again!
