Birthday Surprises and Such

In case you do not know, we love to party at the Brew. Last week was fun week for partying here; we had two surprise birthday parties! One of our regulars, Laura, came in and ordered some cupcakes for a surprise birthday party for her boyfriend; chocolate chip and birthday cake! They had a great time, and he was very surprised!
Another party last week was Michelle’s sweet 16 surprise party! I had a blast with this one – pink buttercream on chocolate cupcakes with our unique chocolate décor – so fun!
This week made me remember the first ever surprise party that I made cupcakes for here at the Brew; Kristen’s 15th…
Kristen’s dad, Ryan, contacted David a month or so in advance and asked if he could have a party here for his daughter’s birthday, AND he wanted us to make cupcakes! I was beyond ecstatic. Ha. I had seen this really neat idea (in one of my numerous baking books) to use tempered chocolate to draw and make designs and then set on cakes and such. I had to try it a few dozen really bad designs, I finally made some that looked pretty good! We set up the tables, and she was totally surprised – SUCCESS!
And how could I forget sweet Olive’s first birthday, double chocolate cupcakes with chocolate butterflies; what a fun time! And not long after Olive, little Parker had a first birthday outside under the pergola (not a patio – just ask David). Strawberry and sweet cream cupcakes along with miniature lemon berry scones, and mini muffins. Pretty in Pink!

Then there was Brittany who came in and ordered cupcakes for her own party! (I would totally do that – I LOVE IT!) Oh and a couple of times Mom’s from out of town have called in to have cupcakes ready for their kids at college here at Wayland.
One of my favorites was a birthday at Sherri’s house for her daughter Emily. We made chocolate pecan cupcakes with toasted coconut, banana puddin', and some birthday cake.
As cliché as it sounds, I love the excitement that comes with someone opening a box of cupcakes, or seeing them upon walking into a surprise group of family and friends. It is just one more reason I love my job (in case I had not told you lately).
