"Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name..."

Tuesday morning was one of those times I am most reminded why I love this place. It was a crisp, bright morning and I smelled coffee and heard jazz before I even walked in the open door. Jess and Alissa were smiling behind the counter, Cynthia was in her booth having a scone and drip, Pat was holding his coffee like it was his life support, and Bryan was of course banging on the counter for service. Brad and Kayla were having their usual: drip coffee and cinnamon rolls with their precious babies, Robert had been in for his wife’s scones, and Chris was here for a morning break before heading back to work – everything was as it should be. Jess called it a “Gilmore Girls kind of morning.”
But see, we had a problem: we needed a torch.
As all bakers know, this is the peak season for baking! And what better way to say “day before Thanksgiving” than a delicious candied sweet potato cupcake? (There is no better way). So, in order to achieve our dream of toasted mallows on a sweet potato cupcake, we had to have a torch – (and despite our desperate pleas to David, we were torchless.)
Luckily, Brian overheard our (rather frustrated) rant on how we NEEDED a torch… of course he had one in his truck. That is what I love about farmers; they have everything imaginable in their trucks! So a few minutes later, he brought in the coolest kitchen gadget (or pipe torch) that I had ever seen! With a firm command not to burn the place down, he hesitantly handed over the torch and left before he could be considered guilty by association…
Two burned fingers, an unfortunate cupcake wrapper down, and more than a few “ashy” mallows, we had really awesome sweet potato cupcakes complete with caramel sauce and toasted mallows… EXCITING!
So, as you can see, we could not do what we do without our customers. You guys make it worth waking up at 5am to open up shop (and trust Jess and I when we tell you that the list of worthwhile reasons to wake up that early is not very long). For that – we thank you. We look forward to seeing you in the shop – trust us, we will be there!
